Dr Benjamin Stokes

Ben is a fertility specialist and the Clinical Director of Coastal IVF. His areas of expertise include complex infertility, unsuccessful treatment elsewhere, and advanced robotic gynaecological surgery.

"My approach is to understand the cause of infertility and tailor treatment accordingly - supporting natural conception where possible and optimising IVF when needed."

Micro-laparoscopy and robotic surgery

Ben introduced robotic gynaecological surgery to the Sunshine Coast and, as of 2026, has performed more than 200 robotic procedures. He is also one of few gynaecologists in Australia trained in ultra-minimally invasive 3 mm micro-laparoscopy. This technique uses tiny, suture-free incisions resulting in less pain, minimal scarring, and a fast recovery.

His areas of focus include:

  • Advanced endometriosis: including stage III-IV disease and ovarian endometriomas.
  • Severe pelvic adhesions: dense internal scarring associated with endometriosis or prior surgery.
  • Large or multiple uterine fibroids: using keyhole robotic surgery to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus.
  • Complex ovarian cysts: with attention to preserving healthy ovarian tissue and reserve.
  • Complex hysterectomy: including cases affected by endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids or adhesions.

Complex infertility

Ben has a particular interest in complex infertility and helping patients after unsuccessful treatment elsewhere. His approach starts with identifying the underlying causes and factors affecting IVF success, then developing a targeted, individualised plan.

This includes:

  • Detailed reassessment: reviewing prior investigations, stimulation response, fertilisation, embryo development, implantation and outcomes.
  • Targeted treatments: addressing underlying causes and considering natural conception or less invasive options where appropriate.
  • Individualised IVF: tailoring stimulation protocols to your circumstances and previous response.
  • Honest advice: discussing realistic chances of success, costs and when further IVF is unlikely to help.
  • Alternative pathways: exploring options such as donor eggs or embryos when appropriate, with time and support to consider your next steps.

From fertility to delivery

As both a fertility specialist and obstetrician, Ben offers personalised care from your first fertility assessment through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

His care includes:

  • Continuity with your doctor: someone who understands your history, previous treatment and priorities.
  • Early pregnancy support: regular scans and care during the first weeks of pregnancy.
  • Personalised obstetric care: including ultrasound at every visit, with 3D and 4D images.
  • Individualised birth planning: a range of birth options tailored to your preferences and clinical needs.
  • Postnatal care: follow-up to support your recovery.
