Dr Robert North

Rob provides personalised care across pregnancy and gynaecology, with particular interests in robotic surgery, obstetrics and pelvic organ prolapse. He combines broad medical experience with a calm, approachable manner, taking time to explain your options and understand what matters to you.

“I want my patients to feel comfortable asking questions, understand their options and be involved in decisions about their care.”

Calm, personalised pregnancy care

Rob brings a calm, reassuring approach to obstetric care, helping you understand your pregnancy and feel comfortable asking questions. His experience in both general practice and specialist obstetrics gives him a broad perspective on your health and the needs of your growing family.

He takes time to understand your concerns, explain your options and plan for birth around your preferences and clinical needs. As your pregnancy progresses, Rob provides clear guidance and discusses any changes to the plan, so you feel informed and involved throughout your care.

Robotic gynaecological surgery

Rob was among the first gynaecologists on the Sunshine Coast to train in robotic surgery. He is also leading the implementation of robotic gynaecological surgery at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, alongside his private practice at Coastal IVF.

Robotic surgery provides magnified 3D vision and finely controlled instruments for minimally invasive keyhole procedures. His surgical care includes:

  • Hysterectomy: for conditions such as fibroids, adenomyosis or persistent heavy bleeding.
  • Endometriosis and pelvic adhesions: treating endometriosis and internal scarring where surgery is appropriate.
  • Ovarian cysts: assessing and treating cysts with attention to preserving healthy ovarian tissue.

Rob discusses the available approaches, expected benefits, risks and recovery to help you make an informed decision about surgery.

Prolapse assessment and treatment

Vaginal bulging, pelvic heaviness or difficulty emptying your bladder or bowel can affect everyday comfort and confidence. Rob provides assessment and treatment for pelvic organ prolapse, with care guided by your symptoms and how they affect your life.

Treatment options may include:

  • Pelvic floor support: advice on physiotherapy and measures to reduce strain on the pelvic floor.
  • Vaginal pessaries: removable support devices that may help manage symptoms or delay surgery.
  • Prolapse surgery: discussing repair options, their benefits and limitations, and the recovery involved.

The aim is to find an approach that suits your health, lifestyle and priorities, with ongoing review as your needs change.

From general practice to specialist care

Rob graduated from the University of Newcastle in 1998. He worked in rural general practice and spent eight years as a GP obstetrician in Victoria before completing specialist obstetrics and gynaecology training in 2020.

This background continues to shape his approach: considering the whole person, valuing continuity and working closely with each patient’s GP.
