Your Pregnancy Journey at Coastal IVF
-
7-9 Weeks
Early Pregnancy
Your first visit confirms your pregnancy and plans your care. You’ll have an early ultrasound, discuss tests and supplements, and receive guidance for a healthy start.
-
12 Weeks
Nuchal Ultrasound
Between 11 and 13+6 weeks, a nuchal scan checks your baby’s early anatomy and growth. Your obstetrician will discuss screening options for chromosomal conditions and pre-eclampsia if needed.
-
16 Weeks
Booking in Visit
During this appointment, you’ll meet our lovely midwives. If your blood group is negative, you will be offered a blood test to determine your baby’s blood group to assess whether you’ll need anti-D during your pregnancy.
-
20 Weeks
Morphology Scan
A detailed anatomy scan assesses your baby’s development, placental location and cervical length. Your obstetrician will review these findings with you.
-
24 Weeks
Cross-Over Visit
You’ll have crossover visits with the other Coastal IVF obstetricians so you can meet the full team. This ensures you’re familiar with all doctors in case your treating obstetrician is unavailable at the time of delivery.
-
28 Weeks
Glucose Test
Routine blood tests, glucose screening, and vaccines are reviewed. Your doctor discusses future plans and prepares you for the final trimester. This is also an ideal time to organise your pertussis, influenza, and RSV vaccinations. If your blood group is negative, you may receive anti-D at this appointment. Appointments become more frequent. Your obstetrician checks baby’s position, growth, discusses birth plans, and helps you prepare for delivery.
-
37-40 Weeks
Weekly Reviews
From this stage, you’ll have weekly visits for close monitoring. You’ll also meet with a midwife to discuss breastfeeding and expressing. If an induction or caesarean section is planned, this usually occurs around 39 weeks. The timing of your birth will be discussed based on your preferences and clinical needs.
-
41 Weeks
Postnatal
After birth and hospital discharge, you’ll have follow-up appointments with your obstetrician and midwifery team, typically at 1 week and 6 weeks, or more often if needed. These visits focus on your recovery, mental wellbeing, breastfeeding support, and can include referral to a lactation consultant or pelvic floor physiotherapist as required.
High-Risk
Pregnancy Care
Some pregnancies require extra monitoring and specialist attention to ensure the best outcomes for both mother and baby. At Coastal IVF, our specialist obstetricians Dr Rob North and Dr Melissa Acreman have extensive experience managing high-risk and complex pregnancies, including multiple gestations (e.g. twins), breech presentation and those affected by medical conditions or complications that arise during pregnancy.
We provide care for patients with hypertension, diabetes, thyroid or autoimmune disorders, as well as growth restriction, preterm labour, pre-eclampsia, and advanced maternal age. Our team works collaboratively to deliver safe, personalised care every step of the way.
Deliveries are performed at Buderim Private Hospital, which provides comprehensive maternity and paediatric services for babies from 32 weeks’ gestation onwards. When earlier care is required, we coordinate seamlessly with Sunshine Coast University Hospital (28–32 weeks) and tertiary centres in Brisbane (<28 weeks) to ensure continuity and safety for you and your baby.
