Endometriosis
Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of infertility in patients we see at Coastal IVF.
It is a condition commonly associated with couples putting off having their families until later – as having a pregnancy early in one’s reproductive life seems to create some barrier to its development.
Basically, one finds cysts filled with old degenerate blood on the reproductive structures and when it is more advanced, adhesions can form binding the tubes and ovaries together.
The reason that endometriosis causes infertility is still not fully understood and many people will respond to simple medical and surgical treatments rather than a full IVF cycle.
However, some couples will still not conceive and require various reproductive therapies.
In our society 5-10% of couples have varying degrees of infertility.
Common Causes of Infertility
When should I seek advice about fertility?
If any of these apply to you, please make an appointment to see us at Coastal IVF.
- Have you been trying to conceive for more than 6 months?
- Have you been diagnosed with endometriosis?
- Has your partner had a vasectomy?
- Are you over the age of 35?
- Is your menstrual cycle short, irregular or prolonged
Did you know? Failure to conceive is often the only symptom of endometriosis. Early investigation means early diagnosis and more effective treatment.
